Adrian Archibald claimed two wins at this year's Isle of Man TT |
Adrian Archibald won the big event at Saturday's Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod.
The Ballymoney rider led from start to finish in the Ulster Grand Prix Superbike event and came in comfortably ahead of Ryan Farquhar and Ian Lougher.
Archibald's fifth circuit bettered Bruce Anstey's Ulster Grand Prix lap record set earlier in the day with a new mark of 128.201mph although it was short of 128.54 mph he set at this year's Dundrod 150.
The TAS Suzuki rider's average speed was 126.964mph.
Archibald also led for the majority of the closing second Superbike race before a mistake on the fifth lap dropped the Ballymoney man from first to seventh.
Ian Lougher benefited from Archibald's mistake to take the win ahead of Bruce Anstey and Richard Britton.
The win completed a double for Lougher as the Welshman had earlier won an exciting Supersport 600 race.
At the start of the day, New Zealander Bruce Anstey set a then Ulster Grand Prix lap record in winning the opening race on the Dundrod circuit.
Ian Lougher claimed two wins at Dundrod |
Anstey pipped Archibald to the line with Ryan Farquhar taking third place in the Production 1000cc class.
Despite having a scare earlier in the race when he nearly parted company with his Suzuki at Wheeler's Corner, Anstey bounced back to take Archibald at the Quarries in the final lap to win.
The Kiwi bettered Ian Lougher's UGP lap record of 127.820 in last year's Superbike race when he clocked 127.955 mph on his third circuit.
Anstey's victory was his first Ulster Grand Prix success.
Meanwhile, Darran Lindsay, who lives along the Dundrod circuit, retained his Production 600cc title when he held off Ian Lougher with John McGuinness in third.
Local boy Lindsay set a new race lap record of of 122.99 mph in a close tussle which saw all first five riders still in the hunt for podium places at the end of the final seventh lap.
In the 125cc race, it was victory for Robert Dunlop who edged out Ian Lougher with Davy Lemon in third place. Only 0.75 seconds separated the first three riders.
Lindsay mistake
In the 400cc Supersport, no sooner had Scotland's Ian Duffus lifted the winner's laurels when he announced that he was retiring from the sport.
Duffus, a former NW200 winner, came home ahead of Ryan Farquhar in second just ahead of Jason Griffiths who set a new lap record of 111.78mph.
Lougher won a hugely exciting Supersport 600 event which saw less than a second separating the first four home.
Darran Lindsay led for the majority of the closing stages but a late mistake saw him slipping from first to fifth.
Lougher took the chequered flag from Archibald, Richard Britton with Farquhar just ahead of Lindsay.
Five riders in the race beat the old lap record with Archibald's mark of 123.403 the fastest.
