Duval out of European Open
David Duval has been struggling for form over the past year
David Duval has pulled out because of "scheduling difficulties"
David Duval has pulled out of next week's Smurfit European Open at The K Club in county Kildare.

The former Open Champion accepted an invitation to play in the event last month but organisers have now said that "scheduling difficulties" will prevent the American from competing.

"We apologise to all those fans who were looking forward to seeing him in action but he does hope to play the event in the future," said a tournament official.

The tournament will be boosted by the addition of Nick Faldo to the field.

Other big names playing at the K Club are Retief Goosen, Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Thomas Bjorn and defending champion Michael Campbell.

The European Open from 3/6 July takes place a fortnight before the third major championship of the season.
