Andrew Bree is being challenge for his Irish number one spot

Lisburn swimmer Michael Williamson produced a sensational performance to beat Andrew Bree's Irish 200 metres breaststroke record at the Ulster Open in Belfast on Saturday.

Williamson moved into world-class by clocking 2:10.58 which cut .12 off Bree's existing Irish mark.

The Lisburn man achieved the time despite not being challenged in the race with Jonathan Nixon nearly 17 seconds back in second place.

Donal O'Neill became the first Irishman to go under two minutes in the 200m butterfly.

The Trojan swimmer clocked 1:59.70.

Bangor's Julie Douglas achieved a freestyle double in the 50m (28.01) and 100m (56.90).

In another impressive swim at the Grove meeting, City of Belfast's Melanie Nocher smashed Marion Madine's six-year-old Ulster 200m backstroke record.

Nocher's time of 2:16.59 cut nearly four seconds off Madine's previous mark.
