Derry chase top strikers
Derry City manager Kevin Mahon
Mahon feels the need for more striker power
Derry City are chasing Eircom League hotshots Kevin McHugh and Eric Lavine.

Candystripes boss Kevin Mahon confirmed that he bid for both players in the hope of bringing to Brandywell next season.

McHugh has been a big force with Longford Town while McHugh impressed last season with Donegal neighbours Finn Harps who just missed out on promotion.

McHugh has been the Harps top scorer for the past two seasons.

The 22-year-old spoke to Mahon last week and was impressed by his plans for the Brandywell club.

Harps, however, are believed to be unhappy about the alleged unofficial approach to the player who is contracted with the Division One club until November.

Mahon is hoping to boost his striking power following a disappointing season which saw Derry just avoid the relegation dogfight.
