Royal School Dungannon caused a minor upset in a postponed Renault Ulster Schools' Cup first round tie on Wednesday.

Three penalties by Darren Simpson did the damage against one of the fancied runners in this season's competition.

Simpson had opened the scoring two minutes before the break before Coleraine responded with a great try by Ireland Schools' winger Robert Conway.

But Coleraine were never allowed to play an expansive game against a well-drilled Dungannon pack, and two more second-half penalties by Simpson sealed their fate.

Wallace High also progressed to the next round with a comprehensive 31-5 victory over Larne Grammar.

First half tries by hooker Timothy Lee and Lloyd Jones and a conversion by Thomas Shorten gave Wallace a 12-0 half-time cushion.

Wallace increased that lead shortly after the restart with a try from impressive number 8 Chris Henry.

Larne did respond with a flowing movement which produced a try from Gary Dempsey.

But Wallace ran out easy winners in the end with further tries from Mark McCormick and Mark McClean with Shorten adding two more conversions.

Ballymena Academy, losing finalists in 1999/2000 accounted for Down High with a 30-7 success at Downpatrick.

At Chambers Park, Portadown ran out 30-19 winners over Regent House, while Belfast High coasted home 30-6 against Antrim Grammar.

Campbell triumph

Meanwhile, on Saturday, cup specialists Campbell College eventually subdued a brave Ballyclare High challenge to claim a 15-6 victory in a tough first round game.

A late try from right winger John Moutray made the game safe for Campbell.

Left winger Bill Elliott scored Campbell's other try in the sixth minute and converted by fly-half Thomas Horner.

It was a crucial and decisive touchdown as Campbell were finding life difficult against a very strong wind.

Two Stephen Morrow penalties in response left Campbell 7-6 ahead at the interval.

Ballyclare, with forward Lewis Stevenson in tremendous form, fought bravely in the second period.

However, a Horner penalty extended Campbell's lead to 10-6 and Moutray's late try made the game safe.

Meanwhile, Belfast Royal Academy fought back from 13-3 down to eventually overwhelm Friends 37-13.

Centre Peter Wright's try helped Friends to their early advantage.

However, tries from Norman Carson and full-back Gary McArthur left BRA 17-13 ahead at the interval.

McArthur then notched another try to extend BRA's lead and a further touchdown from outside half Andrew Harper ended any prospect of a Friends' win.

Caldwell try

Harper had a good day with the boot, hitting three penalties and four conversions.

Nicholas Gray hit two penalties and a conversion for Friends.

In two other games to survive the weather, 2000 winners and last year's finalists RBAI claimed a 16-10 win in Enniskillen against Portora while Grosvenor Grammar defeated Lurgan College 25-16.

An early try from flanker Robbie Maxwell helped Portora to a 7-0 advantage.

However, RBAI fought back to trail 7-6 at the interval after two Johnny Watts penalties.

A Chris McVitie penalty extended Portora's lead to 10-6 but Ryan Caldwell's try, converted by Watts put RBAI three points ahead.

A further Watts penalty left RBAI 16-10 ahead and the Belfast school withstood some late pressure to hold on for the victory.

In Saturday's other match which did take place, Limavady Grammar defeated Cambridge House 32-5.
