![]() | Tuesday, 8 January, 2002, 15:38 GMT GPA to meet McCague ![]() Dublin star Dessie Farrell is chairman of the rebel GPA The Gaelic Players Association will hold discussions with top Croke Park officials on Wednesday. Croke Park does not recognise the GPA and initially, refused to meet the unofficial players' body. However, GPA chairman Dessie Farrell has held discussions in the past number of months with Croke Park's official players' representative Jarlath Burns. Farrell will meet with a number of GAA officials on Wednesday including president Sean McCague, director-general Liam Mulvihill and Jarlath Burns. The topic of players' expenses is high on the GPA's agenda for the meeting.
A recent GPA report said that expenses of up to �100 per week should be given to members of county squads although Sean McCague quickly rejected this proposal. Other issues which could be discussed including drug-testing, welfare funds for injured players and allocation of All-Ireland tickets. Meanwhile, Jordanstown University officials had managed to locate the Sigerson Cup. The �7,000 trophy had been missing following a function last year but the cup has now been returned to UUJ.
