The Ulster Grand Prix meeting had been under threat after previous organisers the Coleraine Club said they would be unable to run the meeting. A meeting of local motorcycling clubs on Wednesday night unanimously agreed to let Dundrod take on the major role. A number of other clubs including the Hillsborough and Moira outfits have agreed to help Dundrod's running of the meeting.
Wednesday's decision has yet to be officially ratified by the Motorcycling Union of Ireland's Ulster Centre but this should be a rubber-stamping exercise. Dundrod official Noel Johnston said his club had already begun preparations for next year's event. The club have experience of running the annual Dundrod 150 races in June for the last nine years. "Our members have local knowledge and a good relationship with landowners and residents built up over many years," confirmed Johnston. The race format has yet to be decided but it's possible that, as in recent years, practice may be restricted to one day. The meeting is scheduled to take place in August. |
