![]() | Monday, 3 December, 2001, 09:17 GMT Elliott fractures skull ![]() Dunloy's Alistair Elliott is still in hospital in London Fr Murphy's 1-6 6-12 Dunloy Alistair Elliott could be out of hurling for some time after sustaining a double-fracture to his skull in Dunloy's All-Ireland quarter-final win on Sunday. Team boss Seamus Elliott told BBC Sport Online on Monday that thoughts on when the player would return to hurling was "well down the agenda". "He's got a double fracture to his skull as well as damage to his inner ear," said the Dunloy boss. "It's bad news and totally took the gloss off a great performance by the team. "At this stage our primary concern is getting him home. The injury means he cannot fly. "He's still in hospital in London but we're hoping that he will be able to come home by boat tomorrow evening (Tuesday)," added the Dunloy boss. Cruciate operation Elliott grabbed an amazing five-goal haul in Dunloy's 6-12 to 1-6 hammering of Londoners Father Murphy in Ruislip. After hitting an astonishing tally of 5-2, Elliott sustained a blow to the head midway through the second half and was immediately taken to hospital. The performance showed that Elliott was back to his best after struggling to recover following a cruciate ligament operation last year. However, Elliott has been cruelly hit by injury again. The corner-forward was the star of the show but he was ably supported by the entire team - especially the half-back trio of Gary O'Kane, Malachy Molloy and Damien McMullan. Elliott's three goals in a five-minute period in the first half ended the Father Murphy's challenge.
Dunloy don not yet know who they will play in the All-Ireland semi-finals in February after Birr drew with Laois club Castletown in Sunday's Leinster decider. The big talking-point of Sunday's AIB Club action down south was Na Fianna's controversial victory over Kildare champions Sarsfields at Navan. Now they will have to do it all over again. The Dublin champions, which included Armagh stars Kieran McGeeney and Des Mackin, won comfortably 3-11 to 1-8 but it was discovered after the match that they had used six, as opposed to the regulation five substitutes. Sarsfield had their protest upheld by the Leinster Council on Monday evening and the game will now be replayed at Newbridge next Sunday. The irony for Na Fianna was that their final substitute was only introduced in second half injury-time when the outcome was already settled.
