Armagh Senior Football Championship final

Crossmaglen Rangers 2-8 Dromintee 1-7 (Athletic Grounds)

There was no fairytale for first-time finalists Dromintee as mighty Crossmaglen retained their county crown.

Hero for Cross was All Star Oisin McConville who had an individual tally of two goals and six points.

Rangers will now face Enniskillen Gaels in the Ulster Club Championship preliminary round.

McConville's two goals came in the first half, one of them a penalty.

Dromintee battled back in the second half and scored four points in a row through Ollie Flynn and Malachy O'Rourke.

They got their only goal right at the end through an Aidan O'Rourke penalty.

But Crossmaglen were clear and deserving winners of their 30th county title.

Down Senior Football final

Castlewellan 1-9 Mayobridge 0-15 (Newcastle)

After a break of one year, Mayobridge have recaptured the Down championship.

They simply had too much power up front for a battling Castlewellan team at St Patrick's Park.

Veteran Mickey Linden starred for Mayobridge

Having beaten Ballymartin, Downpatrick and Burren to reach the decider, 'Bridge were favourites.

But they had to fight all the way to win an entertaining match during which the sides were level seven times.

Mayobridge were ahead seven points to four at half-time.

But the game sprang to life when Castlewellan started the second period in superb fashion.

First Finbar Rice pointed and then Damien McGrady scored a terrific goal to give Castlewellan the lead for the only time in the game.

Bridge responded positively and in the end had three points to spare.

Antrim Senior football final

St Gall's 0-9 St John's 0-8 (Casement Park)

St Gall's won the meeting of these city rivals to complete a senior and minor football double at Casement.

Mark McCrory's point from play gave St Gall's an early lead but St John's replied with a Jim Murphy point, followed by a Graham Clarke point from play.

St John's stretched their lead through a John Kelly free before Paddy McShane and Mark McCrory scored to bring St Gall's level in the 18th minute.

St John's scored four points without reply and were three ahead at the break.

In the second half St Gall's veteran Pat O'Connor was moved from defence to midfield and it paid off as they were level within 10 minutes.

St John's kicked a number of costly wides and St Gall's moved into a 9-7 lead.

St John's then got their only score of the second half through Enda McKenna but they finally lost out by a point.

Tyrone Senior Football final

Carrickmore 1-7 Errigal Ciaran 0-9 (Omagh)

Carrickmore dethroned champions Errigal Ciaran at Healy Park - but it was close.

Carrickmore raced into a three-point lead early on but were quickly pegged back to 4-4.

Dermot Loughran scored the only goal of the game to give John Brennan's boys a four-point cushion.

However, Carrickmore were reduced to 14 men when goalscorer Loughran was dismissed for an off-the-ball offence.

And Errigal Ciaran came fighting back to ensure a tense finale but Carrickmore had done enough to capture their 13th county crown.

Boss Brennan has now guided teams to championships in three different counties, having masterminded two Lavey successes in Derry and Cargin to one in Antrim.

Captain Davitt McElroy said it was a dream final for the Carrickmore team.

"If you wrote a script at the start of the competition you would want to beat Errigal Ciaran in the final," he said.

"We had to hang on at the end because the man short was beginning to tell.

"It was a case of keeping the ball and trying to play the time down.

"It was a team performance. We dug in and the younger players really came through for us."

Fermanagh Senior Football final

Enniskillen 1-22 Teemore 0-4 (Brewster Park)

Enniskillen Gaels produced an awesome performance to clinch their fourth consecutive Fermanagh football title.

The sides were briefly level at two points each after 14 minutes, but from there on the Gaels powered their way to an overwhelming victory.

Enniskillen's goal came from Rory Judge and afterwards top scorer Ronan McCabe said the Gaels had their sights set on the Ulster club title.

"We are aiming for bigger things like the Ulster, but the main thing is to get out of the county first.

"We need a good run in the Ulster to give Fermanagh football a boost."

To complete a miserable day for the Shamrocks, they had Declan O'Reilly sent-off for a late tackle on Tom Brewster.

Donegal Senior Football final

Four Masters 0-8 St Eunan's 1-10 (Ballybofey)

St Eunan's, playing in their fourth final in five years, had too much know-how for Four Masters.

It was not a high quality final, but Brendan Devenney's first half goal was sheer class.

It helped St Eunan's to a 1-2 to three points half-time advantage and they were well on their way to erasing the pain of losing the 2000 final to Ardara.

Defender Mark Crossan, captain of the victorious Letterkenny side, was named as man of the match.

Monaghan Senior Football final

Castleblaney Faughs 0-12 Truagh Gaels 0-7 (Scotstown)

Truagh are still seeking their first county title in Monaghan.

They went down by five points to Castleblaney who have now won the championship four times in a row.

Castleblaney had skipper Declan Loughman sent-off after 22 minutes and missed a first half penalty when Ciaran Tavey's shot was tipped away by Damien McKenna.

But Paddy O'Rourke's side still had too much for the Gaels.

Castleblaney have now won the Monaghan championship 36 times.

  • Limerick retained the All Ireland Under-21 hurling championship by beating Wexford by a point at Thurles.

The final score was 0-17 to 2-10.
