He only took over as boss at the Oval in November 1997 but has now guided them to three Irish Cup final triumphs.

Halliday got the cup-winning goal in the 99th minute.

From Justin McBride's corner, Halliday's first touch flicked the ball up for Tim McCann.

His header came off the bar and Halliday was in the right place to force the ball over from close-range.

Earlier, Halliday had missed the best chance to win the cup in normal time, putting the ball wide from just a couple of yards out after sub McBride had crossed low to the far post.

The highlight of the first half was an incredible double save by Glentoran goalkeeper Alan Gough.

Jamie Marks sent in a low cross from the right and when it came off Paul Leeman it took a remarkable reflex save by Gough to prevent an own goal.

David Larmour pounced on the rebound and, with Gough still on the floor, a goal looked a certainty.

But the Glens keeper somehow recovered to paw Larmour's header away from underneath the crossbar.
