Paul Carberry rode Bobbyjo to victory at Aintree in 1999
Grand National winner Bobbyjo has been retired.

The 1999 Aintree victor picked up a leg injury in the Grand National Trial at Fairyhouse in early February.

Bobbyjo then underwent a successful operation on a fractured bone behind his knee but he hurt himself soon afterwards in an accident at the stables of his trainer Tommy Carberry.

"Bobbyjo gave us some great days, notably winning the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse the year before he also succeeded at Aintree for my son Paul and myself," said Tommy Carberry.

"The horse hurt himself either rolling or getting cast in his box, in the same spot he was operated on successfully four days earlier.

"He will retire to his Galway owner Bobby Burke's place in Mountbellew," added Carberry.

Bobbyjo won eight races and his career prize-money exceeded 425,000.

1999 winning Aintree jockey Paul Carberry is currently recovering from a broken leg which has kept him out of the saddle most of the winter.
