![]() | Monday, 4 December, 2000, 18:10 GMT Hamilton quits as Norwich boss ![]() Bryan Hamilton lasted just nine months as Norwich boss Bryan Hamilton has resigned as manager of First Division Norwich City. The former Northern Ireland boss took charge of the Canaries following the resignation of Bruce Rioch in March. But he has been unable to turn around the fortunes of the East Anglian side, who slumped to their fifth successive defeat at Portsmouth last Saturday. In a statement, chairman Bob Cooper said: "Despite all his hard work, results just haven't gone his way.
"He needed time to bring about the necessary changes to the playing side, but time hasn't been on his side. "Throughout the season, the press and other commentators have increased the pressure in a job that was difficult enough to do." Assistant boss Nigel Worthington will take charge of the team for Saturday's match against Gillingham at Carrow Road. "The board will give Nigel the time to make the necessary changes with its full backing," chairman Cooper added. "For the moment he and the players want to get on with making progress in the League." | See also: Other top Northern Ireland stories: Links to top Northern Ireland stories are at the foot of the page. | |||
