Gronholm set a consistent pace on the dusty Greek stages |
Marcus Gronholm continues to set the pace in the Acropolis Rally after posting the quickest time in two of Saturday's eight stages. The overnight leader is 43.3 seconds ahead of world champion Sebastien Loeb despite the Frenchman going quickest on four stages on Saturday.
Norway's Petter Solberg is one minute 7.6 seconds back in third.
"Everything went well. We were very cautious and I will drive cautiously as well tomorrow," said Gronholm.
Loeb saw one of his front tyres completely shred on one stage, while he had a second puncture later on.
"I was trying to do something but the tyres did not hold out," said Loeb.
"Marcus is just going too quickly and I can't do anything about it. We have to forget the victory now and push for second place."
Early race leader Chris Atkinson of Australia fell away from the leaders, finishing the day in sixth spot, nearly five and half minutes behind Gronholm.
The Finn, who won the race last year, currently leads the World Rally Championship standings.
