Subaru have handed Australian Chris Atkinson a chance to impress in next year's World Rally Championship.

The 25-year-old will drive a works car in most of the 16 rallies next season starting with Rally Sweden in February.

Atkinson, who claimed fifth place in the recent Rally Australia, will team up with Petter Solberg and French newcomer Stephane Sarrazin.

The announcement means that rising British star Kris Meeke has no hope of driving for the team.

"With Chris, Petter and Stephane I believe we've got the most dynamic and exciting driver line-up of any world rally team," said team boss David Lapworth.

"I've been most impressed with what Chris has achieved this year. I believe his performance in Australia, where he set fastest stage times and beat drivers with far more experience, is a strong indication of his potential.

"Now Chris has a great opportunity to show us what he can do."
