McRae is not ready to retire and is looking for the right drive |
Colin McRae has rejected the chance to race in the World Rally Championship with Skoda because the car is not competitive, his agent told BBC Sport. McRae tested for Skoda, but decided against a return to the WRC.
"What was on offer did not really match up with Colin's aspirations," said McRae's agent Campbell Roy.
"If he was to return then he'd want a car that was up there challenging for the podium and there were a few issues in that respect."
The former world champion lost his drive with Citroen for the 2004 season after rule changes limited teams to two drivers.
"Discussions were taking place on a broad level, but we felt it best not to go any further down that particular road," added Roy.
McRae, who is committed for a second attempt at the Paris-Dakar Rally with Nissan in the new year, is still in talks with other teams about a return to the WRC as well as other motorsport events. "Colin will do Paris-Dakar again and we are still in talks with various people about his future plans," said Roy.
"Nothing - including a return to the WRC with another team - has been ruled out but there is no firm news to report at the minute."
Skoda have a vacancy for the 2006 season, and there had been speculation that a deal would be struck to benefit up-and-coming driver Kris Meeke, whom McRae has funded for the past three years.
