Two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz has announced his retirement from the sport.

The Spaniard won the World Rally Championship title in 1990 and 1992 while with Toyota, and is 42.

"I have retired to spend more time with my family," Sainz said. Since making his debut in 1987, he has won a record-breaking 26 rallies.

His most recent success was in the Rally of Argentina in July and he is currently fourth in the standings.
