Burns admits frustration
Richard Burns in action in Monte Carlo
Burns finished fifth in Monte Carlo
Richard Burns has admitted that he is finding it difficult to adapt to life with Peugeot.

The Briton is in his second season with the French team who he joined after winning the world title with Subaru in 2001.

But Burns failed to pick up a win in his first year with Peugeot, and finished fifth in the world championship, his worst result since 1998.

This year I have a lot more confidence in my ability to do it

Now Burns has admitted that, although the Peugeot 206 has won three world titles and 20 world championship rallies, he does not like the car.

"If I was totally honest and looked at how I was with the Subaru and how I am with the Peugeot, then it isn't the same feeling of being totally at one with it," Burns told The Guardian newspaper.

"It's almost like I have to tell myself how to drive it rather than just getting in it and doing it, because you don't just drive it like you would expect to be able to drive a rally car.

"It's almost like I have to slow down. It's a very strange mindset to put yourself into. You don't chuck it around in the same way."

Burns now goes into the Swedish Rally this weekend hoping to improve on a disappointing fifth place finish in the Monte Carlo rally two weeks ago.

But the Englishman will have to beat off fierce Scandinavian competition in the most snowbound event of the season, with world champion Marcus Gronholm the strong favourite.

He said: "I'm not thinking about how am I going to beat Marcus. I'm more thinking about how am I going to get more out of myself.

"Last year was a struggle, certainly the first half. This year I have a lot more confidence in my ability to do it."
