Eastbourne Eagles have signed Danish rider Bjarne Pedersen on loan from Poole Pirates.

The 32-year-old has spent the last nine years in Dorset but will ride as the Eagles' number one for next season.

Club co-promoter Mike Bellerby said: "Bjarne has won a clutch of honours with Poole and we hope his move will spark a real championship challenge."

Last year's number one, Matej Zagar, will not be returning to Arlington as he is unavailable at weekwends.

Bellerby explained: "We are moving back next year to having Saturday as our main race night. As a result, Matej would not be able to fulfil our needs because of his weekend continental commitments.

"This effectively ruled him out of our plans. We were very pleased when we found Bjarne was being made available by Poole and are delighted that he has agreed to join us."

Bellerby hopes the Eagles to be in a position to have name the complete team by Christmas.
