Eastbourne Eagles beat league champions Poole Pirates 98-84 on their own track to win the 2009 Elite League Shield. The Eagles led throughout and held their eight-point advantage from the first leg. "We were quietly confident in the team we put together this year and it was a very good result," team manager Trevor Geer told BBC Sussex. "All our team are desperate to do well this year and get on well together. We feel they are in for a good year."
