Swindon Robins captain Leigh Adams made a winning start to the 2009 Australian Championships at Newcastle, New South Wales after an unbeaten first-round. Adams won all five qualifying races and then took the final ahead of Rory Schlein, Chris Holder and Jason Doyle. Fellow Robins rider Cory Gathercole finished eighth overall, two ahead of Swindon team-mate Troy Batchelor with teenager Justin Segdemen in 15th. The second-round is at Mildura, Victoria on 7 January.
