Smith was the key man for King's Lynn on Wednesday night |
Premier League side King's Lynn Stars suffered a 24-point defeat by the Elite League's Ipswich Witches in the first leg of the East Anglian Trophy. Ipswich's Jarek Hampel top-scored in the clash with 15 as Stars new signing Kozza Smith scored 12 points on Wednesday night.
The second leg is on Thursday as Lynn travel to Ipswich.
The Stars will be boosted by the return of former captain and ex-world champion Jason Crump.
The pre-league matches are a good chance for the riders to get back on their bikes after the winter break.
Speedway correspondent Edwin Overland told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Its a chance for the riders to brush away the cobwebs from the winter and to get into their racing gear, get themselves sorted out for when the season starts for real.
"[Kozza] Smith is a very determined young man, as well as picking up points for Lynn he's going to entertain."
The first league match for the Stars is on Wednesday, 19 March against Mildenhall.
