Brummies tried to get PL Champion
James Wright
Wright has chosen to ride in the Elite League
Brummies boss Graham Drury says he came close to persuading Premier League Riders' Champion James Wright to come to the club for the new season.

Wright was a Birmingham asset following Tony Mole's sale of Workington but chose to ride for Swindon Robins in the Elite League instead.

"We may win promotion and Wrighty might come into the equation. I know he would have no problems riding for us.

"He likes the place and who knows what can happen in speedway?" Drury said.

Wright will be back at Perry Barr though to take part in the Alan Hunt Memorial Trophy - the opening meeting of the season in March.

"He was only too happy to accept the booking. It was the historic re-opening meeting last year at Birmingham and he finished runner-up in that," Drury added.

Meanwhile, other Brummie assets could soon be with new clubs.

Brent Werner wants to come out of retirement while Rusty Harrison is hoping to move on.

The Brummies have given both permission to talk to other clubs.
