Bandits mark 40 years of speedway
Peter Waite

The Berwick Bandits will celebrate 40 years of speedway this Saturday at a meeting at Shielfield Park.

The club will play host to current and former Bandit riders who have represented the club throughout the years.

"It's thrilling for the town and the club," Bandit promoter Peter Waite told BBC Look North.

"We've been working on this for four months and we've got all the legends here. It's going to be awesome."

Berwick Bandits were started in 1968 by Danny and Elizabeth Taylor, and over 100 former Bandits are expected to come and mark the occasion.

One of them will be Lex Milloy, who now works as a stuntman in the film industry, and is in the process of making a film based on his life story.

"I have very very happy memories here," said Milloy. "I never thought I'd ever see this place again.

"I've lived all over the world, and I'm based in London, so it's great to come back."

The celebrations will begin at 1900 BST.
