Capirossi crashed out on the second corner at Misano |
Veteran MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi has undergone successful surgery on the hand injury he suffered when crashing out of Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix. The 37-year-old Rizla Suzuki rider's 200th elite class race ended when he collided with Nicky Hayden, who escaped unhurt, on Misano's second corner. An operation on Monday reconstructed the bone in Capirossi's little finger. But the Italian remains a doubt for the next round of the MotoGP world championship in Spain on 19 September. "The operation went very well and I have been told I will get full movement back - which is great news," said Capirossi, who lies 15th in the overall rider standings with six races remaining. | 606: DEBATE |
He is widely expected to leave the Rizla Suzuki team at the end of the season to join the Pramac Ducati satellite team, having previously been a rider for the Ducati factory team. Capirossi also extended his sympathies to the family of Japanese Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa, who was killed in an accident when competing in the Moto2 class last weekend in San Marino. "Although I am in a bit of pain, this is still nothing compared to what happened at Misano on Sunday and once again I want to send my wishes and prayers to Tomizawa san's family in their time of great sadness."
