Bautista has yet to make an impact in his debut MotoGP season |
Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista has had surgery to mend a broken shoulder after being involved in a motocross accident in training for the French Grand Prix. The 25-year-old Spaniard, who stepped up from the 250cc class at the end of last season, suffered what was called a "simple break" to his clavicle. He should be fit to ride at Le Mans on 23 May, although with the chance of some pain and restricted movement. As a result the team currently have no plans to replace him for the race. Bautista, a former 125cc world champion and 250cc championship runner-up, failed to finish the opening race of the championship in Qatar, and was 10th in the second race at Jerez. | 606: DEBATE |
He lies 16th in the standings, with six points from two races, two places below veteran team-mate Loris Capirossi. Championship contenders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have both also suffered injuries recently in motocross accidents.
