Former MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden has signed a contract to remain with Ducati next season. Hayden joined Ducati from Repsol Honda at the start of the season and claimed his first podium for the team last week coming third in the Indianapolis GP. "This has been a very good week and this news just adds to it. I'm sure I'll be able to do a good job next year for the Ducati family," said Hayden. The 28-year-old returns to action at the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday. Ducati have had a disastrous season, with Hayden being the latest new arrival to struggle with their bike, and Casey Stoner, the only person who seems to have mastered it, being sidelined by a mystery illness.  | 606: DEBATE |
Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo, who lies second in the world championship standings, was heavily linked with a move to Ducati before opting to stay with his current team. "The confirmation of Nicky is the right reward for a rider who has been shown to perfectly embody the frame of mind that characterises Ducati - passion, determination and commitment," said Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali. "We have always considered Nicky to be an important asset to the Ducati 2010 strategy and we are very happy that he will remain in the Ducati Marlboro team. "His progression through the season has been constant up to the podium in Indianapolis and we are certain that the experience he has gained will be decisive for a 2010 season full of success."
