Frenchman de Puniet is eighth in the championship standings

Randy de Puniet says he is fit to ride in the Czech MotoGP this weekend despite having a screw inserted in his left ankle after a motocross accident.

The LCR Honda rider, who finished third in the most recent race at Donington on 26 July, injured himself training during the summer break.

"After the surgery I thought I wouldn't be able to race in Brno," he said.

"But my ankle is improving day by day, I can easily move it and I will be fit for the race."

The Frenchman currently lies eighth in the championship standings on 74 points, five points adrift of seventh-placed Marco Melandri.

The Czech Grand Prix is the 11th race of the 17-race championship, with Valentino Rossi the current championship leader, 25 points clear of second-placed Jorge Lorenzo.
