Scott Redding claimed third place in a rain-shortened British 125cc Grand Prix at Donington on Sunday. Gloucestershire's Redding, who won the race in 2008, came home behind Spain's Julian Simon and Italian Simone Corsi. But Bradley Smith's world title hopes took another blow after he crashed when in the lead and limped home in 20th. Smith had started on pole but was fifth when rain halted the race, which was restarted as a five-lap affair, and he remains third in the championship. Simon's win was his third of the season and doubled his championship lead over second-placed Sergio Gadea to 50 points. Corsi's second place finish put him on the podium for the first time since the final race of last season at Valencia. It could have been even better for Corsi as he led going into the final lap, but he was passed by Simon and was unable to regain first place. The 250cc race was also won by its championship leader as Hiroshi Aoyama of Japan recorded his third win of the season. He came home ahead of Spain's Alvaro Bautista, with Mattia Pasini of Italy a distant third.
