Injured Hayden to miss Czech race

Nicky Hayden
Hayden has had a miserable season at Repsol Honda

Nicky Hayden will miss this weekend's Czech MotoGP race after suffering a foot injury while taking part in an extreme sports event in Los Angeles.

The Repsol Honda rider was taking part in the X Games during the summer break with the permission of his team.

"I certainly feel bad about it and I apologise," he said.

"I just wanted to do some riding during the break, have some fun and I thought maybe it would give me some spark for the rest of the season. It backfired."

606: DEBATE
The 2006 world champion injured his right heel and has been told to rest it, although he should be back in time for the San Marino Grand Prix at the end of the month.

At the mid-point in what has been a disappointing season for him, Hayden lies eighth in the standings, one place ahead of James Toseland.

The injury is an particularly ill-timed blow to Hayden, as there has been widespread speculation about whether the team will keep him on next season.
