Bird considers Touring Car switch

Motorbikes

Vent Axia Honda VK World Superbike team owner Paul Bird has revealed he could make the switch to the British Touring Car Championship next year.

"I've got to the stage where I'm looking at the possibility of doing something else in 2009," Bird told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We have an opportunity to take our whole team over to the BTCC with a new sponsor ready to come on board.

"We will make a decision over the next couple of months."

Cumbrian Bird has already decided to retire from rallying after a career that saw him become National Gravel Champion in 2005.

It's a fantastic achievement for a little team like ours from Penrith to be able to compete

Team boss Paul Bird

"I don't really have the time any more to do both rallying and bikes. I've been there and ticked the box and probably achieved more than I ever expected," he said.

"It's difficult to say at this stage whether this will be our last year in Superbikes. There's a lot of things going on at the moment so we will have to decide what we want to do.

"It's a fantastic achievement for a little team like ours from Penrith to be able to compete on that kind of stage but Superbikes is a real hard task against the best teams and riders in the world."
