Valentino Rossi says he is ready to sign a new two-year deal at Yamaha and could carry on racing until he is 35.

The seven-time world champion, who has won the last three races and is the current world championship leader, said there are "several details to examine".

"Even if it's not still official we are very close to signing and I'm going to extend my deal for two years," he said.

"I'm 29 and convinced I can stay at the top until I am 31. After that I don't know. You can ride until 34 or 35."

After five consecutive elite class titles, Rossi missed out on the title in 2006 and 2007, and there was talk he could leave Yamaha after the disappointment of the 2007 season.

But the team have responded to his criticism in spectacular fashion, giving him a bike which has taken him back to the winner's podium and the top of the standings.

And Rossi said his longer-term plans depended on how well this progress could be maintained.

"That depends on my development and that of the motorbike. If we continue to be competitive we can consider other (contract) extensions," he said.

"Motivation is what makes the difference between riders and the number of falls.

"A long career also means a lot of stress and pressure, but I'm not thinking about that for the moment."
