William Dunlop is to quit road racing following the death of his father Robert during a practice session for the North West 200.

William will compete for the KPR team in the British 125cc championship for the remainder of the season.

"It was a hard decision to make as I loved racing on the roads and so did my dad but I think this is a good chance to leave the roads and try circuits.

"I love road racing and would never put it down but I want to try this."

William's younger brother Michael has yet to decide what his future in the sport will be but says he will take into consideration the views of his mother.

"It is not just about what I want to do, although it would be hard to give up something that is all you really know.

"I am sad that it took something like this to happen for someone to give William his chance at the short circuits and I think he is good enough to win the series," said Michael, who won Saturday's 250cc race at the North West in memory of his father.
