Eugene Laverty was forced out after 18 laps of the 250cc world championship round at Jerez on Sunday.

It is the second race in a row the Blusens Aprilia rider from Toomebridge has failed to finish as he crashed in the opening round in Qatar.

Finn Mika Kallio claimed victory after leading pair Alvaro Bautista and Marco Simoncelli collided on the last lap and crashed out of contention.

Qatar winner Mattia Pasini took second place to lead the overall championship.
