Michael Dunlop will ride in the 250cc class |
Michael Dunlop has secured a 250cc bike which was formerly campaigned in the MotoGP series for this year's North West 200 on Saturday 17 May. The youngest of the racing Dunlops will ride the Honda in the opening race of the day and will be up against brother William and also probably, dad Robert.
The bike has been ridden at Sachsenring and Valencia in the MotoGP class.
18-year-old German Joshua Sommer also rode the machine in the European championship series last season.
Dunlop was second to brother William in the 250cc race at the Ulster Grand Prix last year.
Robert is still on the lookout for a bike but hopes to take in the race, as well as the 125cc class, at the North West in May.
Clerk-of-the-course Mervyn Whyte has been encouraged by the number of entries for the 250 race so far.
"We have more than 30 entries so far and there is still six weeks before entries close. There is plenty of quality in the field already," he said.
