James Toseland is the world superbike champion |
Briton James Toseland insisted he will be ready for the start of the MotoGP season in three weeks' time despite injuring his ankle testing in Jerez. The world superbike champion tore his ligaments after crashing his Yamaha on his first lap in difficult conditions. The 27-year-old was taken to hospital for X-rays but soon returned to the track and got back on his bike to post the sixth fastest time of the day. He said: "It's a disappointing end to an otherwise very successful test." Honda's Nicky Hayden set the pace clocking the fastest time with a lap of one minute 38.848 seconds in Spain. Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo was second quickest with MotoGP champion Casey Stoner back in seventh. | 606: DEBATE |
"I'm remaining focused on the future and looking forward to the first race in Qatar," added Toseland. The test was the first time this year that the top riders have come together at the same circuit, ahead of the season curtain raiser in Qatar on 9 March.
