The injury makes Melandri's third place finish all the more impressive |
Honda rider Marco Melandri faces a race to be fit for the next MotoGP in the Czech Republic on 19 August after it was revealed he has a broken ankle. The Italian suffered the injury when he crashed in qualifying for last month's US Grand Prix, where he finished third, but the break has only shown up now.
He will undergo intensive rehabilitation in order to be fit when the championship race resumes at Brno.
Melandri has recently agreed to join Casey Stoner at Ducati next season.

He is currently fifth in the championship on 115 points, the same number as Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen, who is ranked ahead of Melandri as he has won a race this season, in France.
