Aussie Stoner extends Ducati deal
Stoner holds off Rossi in Barcelona.
Stoner edged a thrilling battle with Rossi in Barcelona
MotoGP world championship leader Casey Stoner has extended his contract with Ducati until the end of 2008.

He extended his lead at the top of the standings on Sunday in Barcelona with his fourth victory in his first full season with the Italian team.

Stoner's father and manager Colin said: "Casey has renewed for 2008 and we are already talking about the future.

"I envisage that by the end of this season we will have something concrete for 2009 and 2010."

He added: "Both parties are happy to continue. We don't want to go anywhere and Ducati don't want Casey to go anywhere."

Six month's after joining the Italian team, Stoner has set himself up as the principal rival of Italy's five-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi.

The Australian has a 14-point lead over the Yamaha rider after wins in Qatar, Turkey, China and Catalunya.
