Toseland team probe bike failure
James Toseland
Toseland's championship lead is now just five points
James Toseland's team are examining his bike after the World Superbike Championship leader failed to finish the European Grand Prix at Donington.

The Ten Kate Honda rider won the first race on Sunday before he was forced out of the second, won by Noriyuki Haga.

"He was in contention for the podium, if not the win, until the breakdown," said team chief Ronlad ten Kate.

"Until the engine is stripped down we won't have a full idea of what happened," added manager Roger Burnett.

Toseland was gifted victory in the first race after reigning champion Troy Bayliss crashed out at Coppice Corner when in the lead.

Ducati Xerox rider Bayliss lost most of the little finger on his right hand in the incident, but is expected to return to action for the next round of the World Championship at Valencia in a fortnight.

Former MotoGP rider Max Biaggi closed Toseland's championship lead to five points with a third and second place finish in Sunday's two races.

World championship standings:
1. J Toseland 115pts
2. M Biaggi 110
3. N Haga 88
4. T Corser 81
5. L Lanzi 66
