Capirossi has won two races in an injury-hit 2006 |
Ducati MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi has signed a new contract to stay with the team for a fifth season. In his four seasons with them so far the Italian has accumulated five wins, including four in the last 12 months, 11 podiums and seven poles.
Next year's MotoGP bikes will have 800cc capacity and Capirossi said he was looking forward to the challenge.
"The new bike has got off to a good start and we're going to enjoy ourselves next year," he said.
Last week Capirossi told BBC Sport that his win last time out at the Czech Grand Prix at Brno meant he was still in the chase for the 2006 World title.
His said his new contract would spur him on for the five remaining races of this season.
"Ducati's dream is also mine," he said.
"I have a lot of motivation to conclude this season and tackle next year with the same amount of determination and optimism and, as is my style, I will give my everything for this to happen."
Ducati team boss Claudio Domenicali said he was glad to have Capirossi on board for another season.
"The understanding that has been created between Loris and his bike demonstrates, to fans throughout the world, the passion that runs through Ducati," he said.
