Gordon Crockard will be in action at Desertmartin |
Newly crowned world champion Stefan Everts hopes to rewrite the history books by claiming his 100th grand prix victory in the GP of Northern Ireland. Everts clinched his 10th world title and his 99th career win in Belgium on Sunday, leaving him one short of a ton ahead of Desertmartin on 26/27 August.
"It has long been an ambition to win one hundred Grand Prix and I am hoping to do it in Northern Ireland," he said.
"Desertmartin is a challenging track and the race is set to be competitive."
"To win one hundred Grand Prix would be very special for me, so I think it will be a great meeting and hopefully a very memorable one."
Newtownards rider Gordon Crockard said while he was anxious to win on home soil, he recognised all eyes would be on Everts.
"Motocross fans around the world will be watching to see if Stefan can make a bit of history and win one hundred Grand Prix, so I suppose it would be nice if he did it in Northern Ireland," he said.
"That doesn't mean I won't be doing my best to beat him of course.
"I'm pretty pleased with my form at present and getting back into the top six in the world championships has given me a lot of confidence.
"With the backing of the home crowd I'm really looking forward to Desertmartin and I think it will be a great couple of days."
