Honda's Nicky Hayden
There is a section at Donington that we call the car park as it is so slow

The British MotoGP at Donington brings about the midway point of the season and what a season it has been so far.

It's been the best for many years and has had a little bit of everything.

At Assen last week we had the stunning drama of Colin Edwards ruining his chance of a first ever MotoGP win when he came off his bike on the last corner.

Championship leader Nicky Hayden went past him to claim victory in a phenomenal end to the race which sums up just how exciting this season has been.

In hindsight Edwards would obviously have gone about the end of the race in a different way, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and it shows how desperate the riders are to win.

Sat, qualifying, 1255, MotoGP Extra, 1400

Hayden's first-ever MotoGP win in Europe stretched his championship lead to 42 points and really puts him in pole position to dethrone Yamaha's Valentino Rossi.

The Honda rider was under a bit of pressure to win a race this season as he has topped the championship without a victory and people hate that.

But his success will silence those critics and it really sets him up for the championship now as his confidence levels will be sky high.

As for Rossi, the broken hand he sustained in a crash on the Thursday before Assen left him unable to really compete.

He was very sore, but he grabbed a few points by finishing eighth which may prove to be invaluable come the end of the season.

His injury gave the other riders at Assen the ideal opportunity to take advantage and Hayden was the one who really capitalised.

And it remains to be seen what state he will be in when we get to Donington.

The riders really enjoy the Leicestershire circuit as it is like a home-from-home for them due to the fact that most of them are based in England.

The track has some spectacularly fast corners which they really enjoy.

There is a section that they don't like which we call the car park as it is very slow, but apart from that it is one of the more popular tracks due to the boisterous crowd who make for a fantastic atmosphere.

We are at the halfway point and there's all to play for - it's set to be a cracker.

Predictions: 1. Edwards 2. Pedrosa 3. Hayden
