I may have finished in the points last time out in France, but it was still a disappointing result.
Ellison picked up points for the second time this season at Le Mans |
In a lot of recent races, we've just made bad decisions based on lack of information.
This time, the soft front tyre was fine all weekend when it was cold, but unfortunately for the race, it was hotter, so the tyre was under stress, which held me back.
Because of his greater experience, my team-mate Carlos Checa picked the right tyre.
It was a gamble but he knew what he was doing and it paid off. I should have figured it out but I didn't - it was just a bad call by me.
Next day in testing I was up in the middle of the pack, so it's disappointing I couldn't do it on race day.
We are learning but I could do with some results soon, it's very frustrating.
Some time soon we're getting a new chassis, which should make a difference.
All it does is position the engine in differently, but Valentino Rossi has tested it and says he can ride it how he wants it.
 | When you go out on the bike at the moment, you know the problems you're trying to fix can be fixed by swapping frames - but you don't have that frame yet, so it's frustrating |
That's what interests me, because I'm not anywhere near my full potential, because I don't feel like I'm pushing the bike 100%.
Although I'm trying my hardest I'm not pushing my hardest because as soon as you do, you push it out of shape - I want to be able to ride aggressively which is what you have to do if you want to get up with the front guys.
It's hard not to think about the new chassis after reading the quotes, because I know it's an improvement.

There's obviously a good reason for not giving it out to everyone, they test it on the best rider first.
Once they know 100% it is an improvement, we'll all get it. We'd hoped to get it this weekend at Mugello but it now looks like Barcelona is a reasonable estimate.
When it comes, that will make a huge difference, because I'm not comfortable. I know what I want do, but I can't do it yet, and when everything is right, riding becomes second nature.
Race craft is something you have to learn and it's something I've not had much chance to as I've always been at the back.
Five races into the season, the Yamaha chassis is still problematic |
When you're constantly fighting, you hone your skills, but when you're developing a bike you don't get to race with people, so you lose the ability to fight people and outbreak them.
Practice makes perfect, but we've not had practice of racing anybody.
I need to get the whole package working so I can do what I want to do, but at the moment there are still a lot of limiting factors.
