Bayliss (right) holds off Haga in the first race at Silverstone |
World Superbikes leader Troy Bayliss claimed another double at Silverstone to extend his winning streak to seven consecutive races. The Australian Ducati rider held off Noriyuki Haga and James Toseland to take maximum points in the first race.
And the podium positions were exactly the same in race two.
Troy Corser, Bayliss' nearest challenger in the standings, retired from race one and could only manage sixth place in race two.
British wildcard pole-sitter Tommy Hill finished a creditable 12th in race one - his first World Superbike race.
Countryman Chris Walker, who lined up third on the grid, could only manage sixth at the chequered flag.
The first lap was punctuated by a series of incidents that brought out the red flag as six riders were eliminated in two separate incidents.
Corser was unseated from his Alstare Suzuki, which triggered a pile-up that accounted for Fonsi Nieto, Fabien Foret and Honda's Alex Barros.
British Foggy Petronas rider Craig Jones then made contact with Italian racer Vittorio Iannuzzo, putting both out of the race in spectacular fashion, with Jones failing to make the restart 30 minutes later.
Haga put Bayliss under pressure until the end, but it was the championship leader who held out to take maximum points.
In race two Walker made a flying start as Hill again faded from the front of the pack.
But Haga and Bayliss soon took over and it was the Australian who took the lead for good on lap 16.
