Smith will hope to follow in the footsteps of Daniel Pedrosa (above) |
Bradley Smith has been given the chance of a lifetime after it was announced the Oxfordshire 15-year-old will race in the 2006 125cc World Championship. The teenager earned his place by winning the last three rounds of last season's Spanish 125cc championship.
"I can't wait for the test to start. It will be a massive learning year, like going back to step one," said Smith.
Smith will ride for a Honda team managed by Alberto Puig, who guided Daniel Pedrosa to three world titles.
The 125cc World Championship visits four continents, taking in 14 countries, meaning Smith will miss a lot of schooling, but his school in Wheatley have given him their full blessing.
"I got my predicted grades at school this year and I've told them I aim to keep up that standard while I'm away," he said.
"School have told me they are happy for me to go and do it although I don't think they fully understand everything about it."
