Hodgson has already won tithe world and British Superbike crowns |
Neil Hodgson won his first-ever AMA Superbike race at Road America to kick-start his championship challenge. The Burnley-born rider won a shortened race by 27 seconds for Ducati Austin after 10 laps in soaking conditions.
The former World Superbike champion said: "During the final laps, the conditions were some of the worst I've ever had to race in.
"I took a lot of risks. I was aquaplaning up the front straight right up until the end. It was very tough."
Hodgson is chasing a unique hat-trick of Superbike titles after winning the world and British crowns earlier in his career.
He added: "When the adrenaline is in your blood, you actually enjoy riding like that."
Team owner Terry Gregoricka said: "Neil got the job done in a very impressive way. He's ridden hard all season and it was great to see him out in front and leading.
"As happy as we were, it was terrible for us emotionally in the pits watching him sliding around the track on TV as the laps counted down."
