Corser's victory delighted the Australian crowd |
Troy Corser delighted his home crowd with victories in both races of the Australian leg of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island. Corser came home eight seconds ahead of Suzuki team-mate Yukio Kagayama in race one and the Japanese rider narrowed the margin to six seconds in race two.
Briton Chris Walker was ninth in race one but crashed in race two, as did James Toseland, 15th in the first race.
Corser moves to the top of the standings ahead of Kagayama.
Corser, the 1996 champion, finished first and second in the opening round in Qatar.
"I just wanted to be out in front, get my head down and see how far I could go," said Corser, a double victor in Australia in 1999.
"All the Aussie flags were out and everybody was cheering, this is a special place for me. I have a lot of great memories here."
