Ryan Farquhar won his first TT race in the Production 600cc event |
Northern Ireland riders Ryan Farquhar and Adrian Archibald took the honours on the final day of the TT Races on the Isle of Man. Dungannon's Farquhar won the Production 600cc event while Archibald from Ballymoney took the Senior TT race.
Farquhar crossed the line 2.3 seconds ahead of Bruce Anstey with John McGuinness of Morecambe third.
Archibald, on the 1000cc TAS Susuki GSX-R, beat Anstey by 30.2secs with Gary Carswell in third.
Farquhar competing with a badly swollen right wrist, registered the fastest lap of the 600 event, averaging 118.94mph.
"It was one of my biggest ambitions to stand on top of the podium after a TT race," he said.
With a stiff breeze blowing across a course affected by damp patches, Farquhar completed his first lap in 19 minutes 14.6 seconds, all but 25 seconds slower the lap record set by Ian Lougher in 2002.
At this stage McGuinness, seeking his fourth win of the 2004 festival after wins in the Formula One, Lightweight 400cc and Junior TT, was already trailing by 0.9secs despite having passed Honda CBR rider Lougher on the road.
In third was Anstey on the Suzuki GSX-R.
But Farquhar, on the McAdoo Kawasaki ZX6-R, lost time at the refuelling stops with McGuinness seizing the initiative to power in front only for the Dungannon rider to haul himself back on terms.
And as he streaked into Ramsey, Farquhar was ahead once more before Anstey overhauled McGuinness over the mountain section of the final lap.
