Michael Rutter now has 10 victories at the North West 200

The double success makes the Leicestershire rider the fourth most successful in the history of the NW road races.

He won Saturday's opener ahead of John McGuinness while local favourite Adrian Archibald came third place despite starting back in 31st on the grid.

The impressive Rutter added the feature Superbike race later in the day.

He broke the 200mph barrier and has now overtaken the nine victories achieved by his father Tony.

"I was well ahead in the second race but knew I was close to the 200mph mark," said Rutter.

"After seeing the 201 on the board, that was it for me. It was very, very fast and something I have always wanted to do."

Bruce Anstey from New Zealand and Englishman McGuinness chalked up doubles in 600cc and 400cc races.

Ian Lougher from Wales won the 125cc class for the fifth successive year and was the clear winner with Paul Robinson second while McGuinness took the honours in the 400cc.

Lougher had to settle for second in the Production race which was won by Anstey.
