Hodgson confirms MotoGP switch
Neil Hodgson will still be riding a Ducati despite switching championships
Hodgson will still be riding a Ducati despite switching championships
World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson will move to the rival MotoGP championship next season, as predicted by this website in July.

Hodgson will continue with Ducati for the privateer Team d'Antin, and will be partnered by 2003 team-mate Ruben Xaus. The Briton, who dominated the World Superbikes championship this year, is the third champion to leave the series in two years.

Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss both now race in the MotoGP championship.

"I'm really excited because the speculation's been going on for three months," said Hodgson.

"Now I can relax and I'm the happiest man in the world.

"I'm so excited and so nervous. I've got to wait until December to get on the Ducati but I can't wait."

Team d'Antin, who used Yamaha bikes this year, will race two 2003 Ducati Desmosedici bikes in the 2004 championship.

Luis d'Antin, the owner of the Spanish team, is enthusiastic about his outfit's chances.

"We are certain that the arrival of the Desmosedici, which has proved to be a competitive bike in its debut season, will enable our team to achieve some brilliant results," he said.

Hodgson last rode in Grands Prix in the 500cc class in 1995.
