Davies had to battle from the back of the pack |
Wales' Chaz Davies became the youngest ever points scorer in a 250cc GP with his 15th place at the South African race at Welkom. Aprilia Germany rider Davies, aged 16 years and 76 days, had to do it the hard way after a disastrous start.
Davies admitted to panicking on the grid when Spaniard Alex Debon stalled his Honda on the start line.
"That was the hardest race ever. I just kept pushing all race very hard," said Davies.
"I got up to 16th on the last lap and was behind another rider and he just ran off. "I didn't know about the record until afterwards so that makes it even better."
San Marino's Manuel Poggiali took his second 250cc race win of the season on the MS Aprilia but was made to work all the way by Frenchman Randy de Puniet on the Safilo Oxydo Aprilia.
